Tractor Log Splitter

On the popular cable television show "Ax Men", on the History channel, there are groups of loggers who work in the forests of Oregon and Washington, cutting trees with a quota of at least 20 trees a day. The use of chainsaws would never be able to cut as many trees each day as needed, so the professional loggers in this television show use a tractor log splitter to keep the work load down. It also helps speed up the process of cutting trees because it is much faster than a logger with his chainsaw.  These splitters take a team of men to operate, which can become dangerous if the team is distracted, but usually, there are no incidents because the men and the log splitter operator look out for each other.

The tractor log splitter is the largest of the log splitter family and requires wheels and a driver who is trained in driving and operating this piece of machinery, to move through the field of trees which it is cutting down. Because it has to maneuver through a field, not only of trees but also of stumps, it would need to be as agile as possible to avoid getting stuck. These splitters can become a multi-purpose tool in several different ways that a logging company would need and find useful. They can do the work of a brush and finishing mower. It can dig the post holes for a fence, should a fence be required by the logging company. It can double as a backhoe, a tiller, a plow, and a landscaping rake for those with landscaping or construction needs. It can become a front end loader to carry the cut trees away from the site or to the flat bed truck for delivery. It has a grader and box blade available for use. It can pull a trailer, when necessary.

The tractor log splitter has been shown to be used more often and more frequently than any other log splitter. It requires less maintenance then other splitters because it is strong, made simply, fuel efficient, and reliable. It also takes a team of men to operate, but once that team is trained and knows how to use it, the cutting of trees is more efficient than ever. Most of them cost less than a riding mower.

If the customer chooses one of these tractor log splitters, safety is the most important piece to remember. First, have the correct training needed to drive and operate this huge piece of machinery. It could be very dangerous without the knowledge of what to do if the machine stumbles or gets stuck on a tree or a stump. Knowing where all the crew members are will also help keep them safe, so having a trained team that works with this equipment is also important. Second, keep gas, oil, and any other mechanical needs on hand so that a repair can be made quickly on site, instead of having to lose days of to send the machine in to be fixed.
